The image of the Harlequin was often present in the Russian art of the early 20th century. The new exhibition of the Tretyakov Gallery tells about the dramatization images in the works by Konstantin Somov, Nikolai Sapunov, and Sergey Sudeikin.
The Tretyakov Gallery holds a significant number of graphic artworks by these three artists of the Silver Age. If you analyze this collection, the image of Harlequin arises in lots of these works.
It was Harlequin who became the element uniting the works at the new exhibition. Halls 49 to 56 display graphic artworks that embody the spirit of the time - the intoxicating and bitter irony of the Russian culture of the turn of the 19th — 20th centuries.
