Foreign Students Choose Natural Science and Engineering Professions in Russia

Mikhail Kotyukov, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, said that specialties related to medicine and economics evoke the greatest interest among foreign applicants of Russian universities.

The least interest is in agriculture and physical education. The status of a university is taken into account as well: its rating, the availability of information about its programs and the professors who teach in it.

The number of students from abroad who study in Russia in the framework of the project “Education Export” is planned to double. One of the main tasks of the ambitious program “Education Export” is to popularize domestic education abroad. Launched in the spring of 2016, the project is designed for several years and will be completed in the autumn of 2025. Within its framework, the number of foreign students is planned to increase by more than three times: from two hundred and twenty thousand to seven hundred and ten.

The number of those studying online should also increase: from one million to three and a half million listeners.
