Original works by antique masters and talented copies of antiques, masterpieces of French and Italian artists are displayed in Tsaritsyno Estate, Moscow.
The exposition in the Opera House of Tsaritsyno includes 126 sculptures from the collection of Count N.P. Sheremetev, which were stored in the Ostankino museum-estate.
E. Falcone, J. Houdon, J. Pigalle, S. Buazot – these famous sculptors’ masterpieces were purchased by Count N.P. Sheremetev, a famous Russian statesman and collector, back in the 18th century. His collection included original antique sculptures (the head of Aphrodite, "Gigey", "She Goat", etc) and talented copies made by sculptors from Italy and France.
The Palace in the Palace exhibition also features 19th century works, which were acquired for the Ostankino collection after the count’s death. Placing rare sculptures in the Opera House of the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve is the realization of the dream project of the architect Vasily Bazhenov. Marble compositions organically complement the architecture of the Opera House and are revealed to the visitors in a new role.
The large-scale exhibition became possible thanks to the restoration work that is being carried out now at the Ostankino Estate.
