The Department of Tourism was created as a part of the Ministry of Economic Development. The Department of Tourism was created within the Ministry of Economic Development by the order of the Head of Department Maksim Oreshkin.

      The key tasks of the Department of Tourism are to define the guidelines for the strategic development of the national tourism industry, to develop approaches to the formation of a holistic national tourism product and its promotion on the domestic and foreign markets, to develop tourism and related infrastructure  and bring them to a new level, to expand state support for small and medium-sized businesses in the field of tourism, improve legislation, in particular, remove excessive visa barriers, improve the mechanisms for protection Russian tourists abroad and for improving the quality of hotel services.
