Aristocratic portraits make a significant part of the collection of the Historical Museum of Moscow.
The collection includes portraits of the nobility and ancient clans painted by famous Russian artists.
The exhibition includes 120 portraits that previously decorated the estates of princes Dolgorukov, Kurakin, Baryatinsky, Golitsyn, and Shakhovsky, and were kept in private galleries of the noble families of the Glebov-Streshnevs, the Naryshkins, and others. Among the authors of these paintings there are Vassily Tropinin, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Makovsky, Dmitry Levitsky, and others.

Noteworthy is the portrait of Count Bestuzhev-Rumin and a unique video series, demonstrating all the steps and stages of its restoration.
The portrait exposition is complemented with sculptures and photographs of mansions.
