Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid can safely be called the founders of Sots Art (short for Socialist Art) aka Soviet Pop Art, a trend of postmodernism.
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art is going to hold a unique exhibition of their artworks. This project is going to be the first ever retrospective of the founders of Sots Art in Russia.
Visitors to the event will see more than two dozen major artworks. The exposition will occupy 16 halls and will consist of two sections. The first will be dedicated to the artists’ work in the Soviet era, and the second one will tell about the American period in their art career.
Special attention is given to the musical accompaniment of the exhibition. Especially for it, the museum and the Yandex.Music service have developed a thematic playlist. The compositions included in it contain references to the artists’ works and actions they once held.
