The Alexander Pushkin State Museum in Moscow opens a series of exhibitions about Pushkin's attitude to the poems and prose of Western Europe.
The great Russian poet was interested in the political, cultural and social life of England. Alexander Pushkin admired the prose and poetry by John Byron, John Milton, Thomas Moore, Walter Scott, William Shakespeare, and others. To appreciate their writings in original, the Russian poet learned English.
The exhibition demonstrates which works of literature he was most interested in and how they influenced his own creativity.
In addition to that, the exposition tells about the reviews that Pushkin’s writings got in the British editions.
