Ecotourism covers approximately 25% of the global tourism market. Ecotourism is a limitless, young and promising direction, which is developing very rapidly. According to a study by the American travel site TripAdvisor, every year 30% of the total number of tourists in the world are choosing ecotourism. In addition, 70% of tourists say that next year they are going to choose a more environmentally friendly type of tourism.

      At the moment several types of ecotourism are actively developing: cognitive, specific (acquaintance with some kind of animals, plants, etc.), and specialized tourism (photo and film tours, children's eco-camps, rural tourism).

      According to the Federal Tourism Agency, in 2017, about 11 million tourists visited Russian reserves and parks, and 2.4 million people came to Lake Baikal. At the same time, the total number of ecotourists since 2011 has increased by 50%. Specially protected natural territories occupy 15% of the country's territory.
