In 2018, foreign direct investment in Russian companies declined by $ 6.5 billion. The current level of investment is at its lowest level for the last 21 years.
Last year, foreign shareholders of Russian companies sold their shares for $ 22.4 billion. At the same time, new investments amounted to 15.9 billion, which is more than two times lower than the average for the previous ten years.
This trend is observed for the first time in three years, starting from 2015. In 2017, the net inflow of foreign investment in Russian projects, according to the Central Bank, was $ 9.7 billion. If we take into account not only the investments in the authorized capital of Russian organizations (non-financial sector), but also in their debt instruments, their volume in 2018 is estimated at 5.9 billion dollars. In March, Bloomberg calculated the total value of assets withdrawn from Russia in the period from 1994 to 2018. According to the agency, it is equal to 750 billion dollars.
