In 2018, during the Great Names of Russia competition, Russians chose names for 47 airports in the country in honor of famous scientists, military leaders, public and political figures of the country.

According to the results of the competition, Sheremetyevo Airport received the name of Alexander Pushkin, Domodedovo - Mikhail Lomonosov, the Astrakhan Air Port - artist Boris Kustodiev. The name of the Volgograd airport is supplemented by the name of the legendary pilot Alexei Maresyev, Kazan - Tatar national poet Gabdulla Tukai, Ufa - poet Musty Karim.
Voronezh Airport will be named in honor of Peter I. Kaliningrad airport will be named in honor of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, and Kaluga airport - in the name of scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.
