The international festival "The World of Russian Theater" kicked off at the Loftbuehne Theater on June 6.
It was opened with the performance "Datura or the Play of Fancy".
This year troupes from seven countries - namely Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Finland and France - participate in the festival.
Within four days of the festival, the invited theaters will show eight performances in the Russian language with German or English subtitles in Berlin.
This year the festival runs in the framework of the large-scale project "Russian Seasons" in Germany.
Last year, the festival’s president and editor-in-chief of the Russian magazine Teatral, Valery Yakov, told that Berlin could become the permanent venue for the World of Russian Theater.
"As a matter of fact, the Russian theater art enjoys immense interest in Germany. It is not by mere chance that there are about 70 Russian theaters here," - he said then.
