From June 22 to June 30, St. Petersburg is hosting the 25th International Puppet Theater Festival “KUKART”.
The jubilee festival presents a particularly interesting program featuring puppet theaters from Europe and the CIS countries.
This year the festival celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Eugene Demmeni St. Petersburg Puppet Theater as well as the jubilee of Faina Kostina, the Merited Actress of the Russian Federation.
The festival opening took place in Malaya Sadovaya Street, at 4 am on June 22, the Day of Remembrance and Grief. Early morning viewers could see the play Sonia's Essay performed by actors of the Lipetsk Puppet Theater. On the same day, theaters from Tuva, Gomel and Tolyatti presented their performances.
The official opening of the festival took place in the Stanislavsky Actor House at 2 pm on the same day.
A special free open-air show under the name “Punches on Nevsky” unfolded at the intersection of Nevsky Prospect and Malaya Sadovaya Street on June 23.
