Exhibition "Soldier of Misfortune" in Moscow
28.06.2019 15:09

The historical exhibition at the Old English Court Museum in the heart of Moscow tells about the epoch of Ivan the Terrible

The Soldier of Misfortune exposition with rarities of the 16th – 17th centuries features the life of the life-guardsman Caspar von Elferfeldt.

He was a famous German lawyer captured during the Livonian War. In Russia, Caspar von Elferfeldt became an adviser to the Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible. Along with that, he closely communicated with the merchants and managed to preserve his property even in the times of Oprichnina.

The exposition hinges around Caspar von Elferfeldt’s tombstone found in Moscow in 1989. Today it is part of the museum’s golden fund. Besides, visitors will see shackles, coins and other items that tell about the life of the hero.

Where: the Old English Court Museum at the address 4a, Varvarka Street, next to the Kitay Gorod metro station, Moscow.
