In the coming years, 24 automobile and pedestrian bridges are planned to be built in the Russian capital, Marat Khusnullin, deputy mayor of Moscow for urban planning and construction, announced.
“Today there are 35 existing bridges in Moscow, but this is clearly not enough. We have plans to build about 24 more automobile and pedestrian bridges across different rivers,” said Khusnullin. According to him, at present some of these bridges are already being designed and built.
“The approximate cost of those bridges that we are already designing and building is about 30 billion rubles, this money is embedded in the city’s targeted investment program,” the head of the building complex noted. He stressed that it is planned to build bridges not only across the Moscow River, but also through the Yauza, Skhodnya and other small rivers. "The construction of new bridges will affect not only the transport situation in the city, but also the improvement of the territories adjacent to the river banks. Bicycle and pedestrian paths and well-maintained pedestrian embankments are planned when designing new bridges," the deputy mayor said.
Khusnullin also noted that a number of bridges will also include rail lines, which is especially important with the development of radial directions for railways and Moscow central diameters.
