Russia ranked 14th among countries for wildlife travel in 2019, where Finland topped the list, follows from the Global Wildlife Travel Index.
According to the study, the main criteria were the number of national parks, biodiversity, the risk of extinction of animal and plant species listed in the Red Book, as well as the state’s efforts to protect nature. In total, 107 countries of the world are included in the rating.
"As the world becomes more and more environmentally friendly, we paid special attention to the study of factors related to eco-sustainability, as well as the maintenance and development of the basic principles of nature conservation," the study said.
According to the authors of the rating, Finland has a wide variety of species of animals and plants, and beautiful landscapes. In addition, the country is actively promoting the idea of preserving the environment. According to the Global Wildlife Travel Index, 39 national parks have been created in the country, and the forest covers more than 73% of its territory.
In Russia, 255 species of animals, mammals and fish living in the wild have been recorded. Russia ranked fifth in the number of national parks: there are 87 national parks in the country.
According to the index, Sweden took the second place in the ranking, Brazil - the third, followed by Canada, the USA, Norway, Spain, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia, closing the top ten. Italy took the eleventh place, followed by Venezuela and Slovakia, France, Australia, Costa Rica, Latvia and Estonia.
