The creator of the Deer.io online store platform, Kirill Firsov, was arrested by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, Rubase reports. Using the platform, stores can upload their goods and set up wallets to accept payment.
According to Deer.io's own data, more than 24 thousand stores are located on the platform, and its revenues exceed $ 17 million. At the same time, according to the FBI, criminals use it almost exclusively. “So far, law enforcement agencies have not found a legitimate business advertising their services and / or products through the Deer.io platform,” the bureau said in a statement. Among the stores checked by investigators (there are more than 250 of them in total) there were points selling access to accounts, hacked servers, personal information, etc.
According to investigators, Firsov was aware of the platform’s client activities and regularly advertised it on cybercrime forums. He is suspected of trading in stolen data.
