Every Fifth Russian Travel Agency May not Survive the Coronavirus Pandemic

Up to 20% of Russian travel companies may close due to the consequences of the new type of coronavirus pandemic COVID-19, Izvestia reports. Tour operators do not sell tickets to China, South Korea, Italy and Iran, soon restrictions will apply to Germany, Spain and France.

According to Dmitry Gorin, adviser to the head of Rostourism, it is too early to assess the harm that the pandemic will cause to the industry, but the losses will be calculated in billions. According to estimates by Elena Sutormina, a member of the Public Council under Rostourism, the losses have almost reached 500 million rubles.

“The epidemic has seriously hit the travel industry, especially the entry industry. Small companies are in a very difficult economic situation. It is likely that about 15-20% of them may close,” she also said.
