Wassily Kandinsky paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery and the Hermitage Museum have come together at the virtual exhibition.
On the Google Arts & Culture platform, an online exhibition of two paintings by Vasily Kandinsky - Composition VI and Composition VII - has opened. The canvases from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Hermitage Museum have been posted in high resolution, so users have the opportunity to examine each and every brush stroke.
Excerpts from the artist’s diaries and comments by art historians serve as descriptions of the artworks. The virtual exposition is complemented with topical videos and fragments of music pieces by the Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg, a representative of musical expressionism. It was after visiting his concert in 1911 that Wassily Kandinsky set about searching for alternative painting methods.
