Russia appealed the decision of the Hague court to recover $ 57 billion in favor of former Yukos shareholders, the Justice Ministry said. The Office called the findings of the court "illegal and unfounded."
“The Russian Federation filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, which demands the cancellation of the decision of the Hague Court of Appeal on the suit of the majority shareholders of the former Yukos NC, obliging Russia to pay $ 57 billion in compensation for the damage it allegedly caused,” the press service of the department said.
On February 13, the Hague Court of Appeal upheld the complaint of the former Yukos shareholders, obliging Russia to pay compensation for the expropriation of the oil company’s assets. In this lawsuit, Group Menatep Limited (GML) initially demanded a payment of $ 114 billion. The Arbitration Court in The Hague estimated the loss at about $ 50 billion.
