Russian hackers, led by Russian intelligence services, attempted to steal information about the development of a vaccine against the COVID-19 coronavirus in the UK, Canada and the United States, the UK's National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) said. The Kremlin found such accusations unacceptable.
"The NCSC and the Canadian Communications Security Administration regard APT29 (also known as Dukes and Cozy Bear) as a cyber espionage group that is almost certainly part of Russian intelligence agencies... During 2020, APT29 targeted various organizations involved in the development of the COVID-19 vaccine." - the message of the center says.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab announced his readiness to bring the organizers of the hacker attacks to justice. “While others are recklessly promoting their selfish interests, the UK and its allies are engaged in the difficult job of finding a vaccine and protecting the health of people around the world... It is absolutely unacceptable that the Russian special services are acting against those who are fighting against the coronavirus pandemic,” the minister said.
