Russia entered the top five European countries with the worst consumer sentiment, Vedomosti reports with reference to the Consumer Sentiment Index of the Center for Business Studies of the Institute for Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge of the Higher School of Economics (HSE). AGreece, Slovenia, Portugal and Spain are also in the top 5.
In the second quarter, consumer confidence fell from 19% to 30%. At the same time, for example, in Denmark, the indicator fell only by 2%. 43% of the study participants said that their financial situation has deteriorated. Only 10% of respondents believe that the situation will begin to improve in the coming year.
“Worst of all is that the greatest pessimism has gripped the most productive part of society - people aged 30–49. Representatives of this category have suffered more than others from the coronavirus crisis, some of these people have lost all or part of their sources of income,” Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the Center for Business Studies at the Higher School of Economics says.
