Foreign students will be able to return to Russia to study, TASS reported with reference to a letter from the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova to the territorial bodies of the department. Earlier, foreigners studying in Russian universities asked the government to allow them to return to study. Russia's borders have been closed since March due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
“Currently, changes are being made to the government's orders in the Russian Federation... regarding the entry of persons to receive education in Russian educational institutions of higher education (from September 1, 2020) and persons entering the Russian Federation to continue higher education (from October 15) for a period of at least three months,” the letter says.
Both foreigners who have just entered Russian universities and students continuing their studies will be able to enter the country. Upon entering the country, students will be required to have a negative coronavirus test.
Earlier today, on August 29, State Duma deputies also called for allowing foreign students to enter Russia. According to the authors of the collective letter to the Ministry of Education and Science, distance learning reduces the quality of education and creates an additional burden on teachers.
