The pedestrian zone has opened in the memorial complex "Defensive Wall of Penza of the 17th century", the press service of the government of the Penza region reports.
The rampart, erected in 1666, is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, an archaeological monument. On the site of the ancient earth rampart that surrounded the wooden fortress Penza during the founding of the city and served to protect it, a memorial complex was erected in 1980. The composition includes a fragment of the fortress wall with an alarm tower, and opposite the rampart there is a monument to the First Settler.
During the reconstruction, the complex was supplemented with a walking area with a staircase leading to the Spassky Cathedral.
