Opposition leader Alexei Navalny called on Europe to impose sanctions against the oligarchs and the inner circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Mr. Navalny, it is ineffective to introduce restrictive measures against the entire state. Recall that the EU is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia due to the possible poisoning of the politician.
The journalist asked Mr. Navalny what he would advise German Chancellor Angela Merkel to do in connection with the current situation. “They kill people because they want to stay in power. They steal money, steal billions, and on weekends fly to Berlin or London, buy expensive apartments and sit in cafes. Sanctions against the entire country do not work. The most important thing is to impose travel bans for those who profit from the regime and freeze their assets. Oligarchs and high-ranking officials, Putin's inner circle,” Mr. Navalny said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.
Western countries claim that the oppositionist was poisoned with poison from the Novichok group. The Russian side denies the version of the poisoning. Yesterday, OPCW experts conducted a technical analysis of biomaterials and concluded that Mr. Navalny had been poisoned with a substance similar to chemical warfare agents.
