The US supported the EU's decision to impose sanctions against Russia in the "Navalny case." Washington commented on the imposition of sanctions by Brussels in connection with the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny. The restrictions were introduced against six high-ranking Russian officials and one research institute.

      “The US welcomes the decision of the EU Council to impose sanctions against Russian officials associated with the poisoning of Alexei Navalny. Those involved in this attack must be held accountable,” the US State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus wrote on Twitter. This is the first official comment by the US authorities on the approved sanctions.

      The sanctions were imposed by Brussels on October 15.
