The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Named the Priority Version of thw Water Pollution in Kamchatka

According to the results of the biochemical examinations, no signs of toxic poisoning were found in persons who sought medical help. No heavy metals were found in the investigated samples of water, soil and marine hydrobionts. The previously detected excess of the concentration of petroleum hydrocarbons and phenol in seawater is not critical and is observed in the water area of Avacha Bay since 1970.

Investigation established that there were no leaks of oil products on ships  and submarines of the Navy that entered Avacha Bay.

All this confirms the version of natural pollution, including the phytoplankton bloom.

The investigators inspected the water area and coastal area of Avacha Bay with a length of more than 200 km, as well as areas adjacent to the disposal sites of hazardous substances in the territory of the region, during which samples of bottom sediments, water and soil were obtained to establish the presence of hazardous substances in them.

The study of these samples excluded the possibility of pollution from the specified objects. During the investigation, physical and chemical, environmental and forensic examinations are carried out by leading expert institutions and scientific centers.
