The digital ruble may come into circulation in Russia in three - seven years, Dmitry Peskov, special presidential envoy for digital and technological development, said in an interview. According to him, Russia will not be able to become a world leader in this area.

“If we start moving towards this right now, I would say that it will take from three to seven years,” he said. In his opinion, Russia will not be able to become the world leader in the field of electronic currency.

He noted that one of the tasks of the digital ruble is to solve the problem of poverty. The digital ruble allows us making payments more transparent.

Earlier, the Bank of Russia published a report on the digital ruble for public consultations. It says that the digital ruble will not replace cash. Also, it is not a cryptocurrency.
