Timiryazev Biological Museum presents an exhibition by the artist Jean Granville, who created a wonderful album of botanical illustration. It features fifty-four plants, with twenty-five of them present in the collections of the Biological Museum.
Granville's watercolors do not pretend to be scientific; rather, they are fantasy and contemplation. The author tried not only to portray the beauty of flowers, but also to convey their symbolic character and meaning. These illustrations have inspired generations of artists and fans of botanical illustration, including our contemporaries. The Timiryazev Museum, together with the Russian Society of Botanical Illustration Lovers, invites you to get acquainted with the illustrations from Jean Granville's album and compare them with the original flowers in herbariums.
