The Senate and House of Representatives of the US Congress plan to impose sanctions on insurance and certification companies that cooperate with Russian vessels completing the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Bloomberg reported.
According to sources, the sanctions will be amended to the draft defense budget for fiscal 2021, while the current restrictions will also remain in effect. The document should be adopted by the end of this year. Sources clarify that the restrictive measures will not affect Germany or German officials. In October, the State Department announced the expansion of sanctions against the gas pipeline, the sanctions may affect more than 120 companies. They are prohibited from providing services, goods, or funding to “upgrade or install equipment” on ships that will operate the project. The Kremlin called the US actions against Nord Stream 2 unfair and raider competition.
