Surgeons To Make Six Times Less Mistakes

New surgeon training simulator was recently introduced to Russian medics. This technique allows six-fold reducing of mistakes during performing operations on vessels of heart, brain and other organs.
16.2 million Russians suffer from cardiovascular systems diseases. The most advanced method for treating these diseases is intravascular surgery, widening an atherosclerotic vessel without major surgical interference.
Intravascular surgery requires a small incision of a large artery (mainly femoral artery), via which a special catheter reaches the constriction. The catheter has a balloon, which widens the vessel lumen, which is then fixed with a metal insert stent.
Training programme is aimed at advancing surgeons professional level and standardizing intravascular surgery technique. The training exploits VIST simulator, creating a situation as close to the reality as possible. The simulator uses data of real patients.
