Earth Dwellers To Examine The Sun Via Venus

Roscosmos schedules the launch of the Intergeliozond space vehicle, aimed at studying solar radiation, for 2014. First scientists planned to launch it in 2010, and then the start was moved to 2012.
The Intergeliozond space vehicle will record solar radiation in optic, ultra-violet, x-ray and gamma ray ranges, as well as detect parameters of the solar wind, study origin of solar flares and coronal plasma ejections. Its estimated operation time is three years.
The space probe will head for Venus, and then turn to Mercury, which is the least explored among the planets of the Solar system and was visited by a spacecraft only once.
Solar corona and solar wind have never been measured directly before. The Intergeliozond space vehicle will help scientists to find solutions for many questions.
