The best Russian cartoonists create a serial film on the basis of fairy tales of 52 nationalities of Russia
22.07.2004 00:00

A unique cartoon project is to be fulfilled in Russia: creation of a 52 series film titled The Mount of Gems. The project belongs to the Pilot cartoon studio. As the artistic director of the studio Mr. Alexander Tatarsky says, each of the series will last 13 minutes and show one fairy tale of the 52 ethnic groups inhabiting Russia.
Each of the films will begin with a 3-minute overture giving little viewers the idea of traditions and the history of the nationality that created this fairy tale informs Mr.Tatarsky. A big team of the best Russian cartoonists is working at this film. To vocalize the cartoons the best Russian actors will be engaged. In particular, the cartoons will speak with voices of such outstanding Russian actors as Alexey Batalov and Sergey Yursky.
The first ten series of The Mount of Gems will be ready in spring already and then we will start negotiating with TV channels about broadcasting the film. When the film is completed we hope to release it in DVD version and if we get certain support we will distribute it in Russian school, in particular, - Mr.Tatarsky said.
The art director of the Pilot studio stresses that realizing such a large-scale project all its participants pursue not only aesthetic goals, but social and political goals as well.
What can cartoons do? you might ask. For a teenager who kills a Tadjik girl for her being a Tadjik, they really can do nothing. But it is at an early age, when cartoons actually are watched, it can and should be brought home to people that we live in a multinational country, where every ethos is unique and interesting and where it is impossible to live without tolerance and respect to each other, - states Mr.Tatarsky.
