Dmitry Shostakovich Museum Opens in St. Petersburg

Dmitry Shostakovich Memorial Museum has recently opened in St. Petersburg. The flat where the great composer was living from 1914 to 1933 has been donated to the city by Mstislav Rostropovich and Galina Vishnevskaya who bought it in 2002. The memorial flat of Shostakovich has been put under the supervision of St. Petersburg Theatre Museum. The museum exposition presents the composer's paraphernalia, photos, posters and playbills. One of the rooms is to be turned into a chamber music hall. With the efforts of Galina Vishnevskaya the interior and the atmosphere of the 1920-30s has been recreated in the memorial flat of Shostakovich. Source: lenta.ru
