As we wrote before, making the centre of Moscow pedestrian-friendly was only in project, but now the works over rebuilding of one of the main Moscow streets are about to get started.
Capital’s authorities are planning to turn New Arbat into Arbat Boulevard – this is the way officials are trying to get rid of permanent traffic jams in the area. It has been decided that one of the Moscow streets, always busy with traffic, must be rebuilt into a pedestrian zone. In order to increase traffic capacity of New Arbat, it is also planned to build underground roads and parking.
The new pedestrian zone Arbat Boulevard with trade and entertainment centres will be divided into several squares and designed in the style of old Moscow, with a chain of souvenir shops and arts salons.
