Moscow is going to impose import taxes on Byelorussian goods in response to Byelorussia’s claim of duties on oil transit across the territory of the republic. Shortly a package of economic measures including introduction of new duties on Byelorussian goods, which are presently imported to Russia at zero rate, will be prepared. In addition to sugar (the authorities imposed customs duties on the product December 29) taxes may be imposed on meat and by-products, milk and dairy products, TV-sets and furniture – the measures can actually cause the breakup of the two countries’ customs union.
