Large-scale restoration of historic and architectural monuments of St.-Petersburg
25.10.2004 00:00

St.-Petersburg has not seen such great renovation since the post-war years. All monuments, that have long been covered with scaffolds will be unveiled in all their beauty.

Alexander Nevsky Laura, the spiritual and cultural center of St.-Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great, in the Soviet times was used as a secret laboratory. Unique frescoes that once decorated its walls and ceiling were shamefully daubed with oil paint.

There s a hope that frescoes can be restored.
