Ivan Ushkovs Shocking Works Discarded from Exhibition

The works by Ivan Ushkov, a photo artist from St. Petersburg, were discarded from the Moscow exhibition Young Artists of Russia half an hour before the opening of the exposition, currently on in the Central House of Artist.

Representatives of the exhibition steering committee declared his series "Welcome to Russia" inappropriate to the image of Russia. In addition to rejecting his works, last week the artist faced another nuisance: law-enforcement authorities searched Ushkovs office, sealed up and withdrew his computer, NEWSru.com informs.

Creations of Ivan Ushkov are rather queer. The epatage, black humour and caustic social implications have turned the artist into one of the most popular authors on the Web. Unwilling to make his art commercial, Ushkov does not sign his works. So, his every new picture at once goes to various comic sites, magazines and newspapers.
