War and Peace to Become Easier

The HarperCollins publishing firm is going to release a new and shorter version of Leo Tolstoys world-renowned masterpiece War and Peace.
The new edition is based on one of the novels early drafts, completed by Tolstoy in 1866 (whereas the final version was published in 1869). The unknown draft presents a version, devoid of all the difficult passages, such as dialogues in French, lengthy descriptions of battles and wordy sophisticated reasoning. Besides, the alternative version has a different ending: two of the main characters, Prince Andrei Bolkonsky and Petya Rostov, who die in the original, survive.
The publishers expect the easier version of War and Peace to be of interest to students of Tolstoy and prove fascinating for the general reader.
