Sakhalin Island no longer boundary area

Hence now on Russian and foreign citizens coming to Sakhalin Island can travel around the territory of the island without getting a boundary pass, therefore, travellers will no longer spend their time on checkpoints. Earlier a pass was needed for Russian and foreign travellers to get, for instance, to the territory of the Nogliksky district, where field development according to the projects Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 was being held.
According to a decree by the director of the Federal Security Service of Russia about amendments to the lines of the boundary area on the territory of independent regions, Sakhalin is no longer considered a boundary area.
