Yesterday a Russian TU-154 carrying out a flight Krasnoyarsk-Norilsk with 117 passengers aboard emergently landed in Norilsk airport. Shortly before a landing approach the plane’s crew noticed a warning light “Metal chips in engine”. The crew made decision to cut off the third engine and landed with two engines operative.
The passengers were not informed about the problems. Fortunately, the crew managed to soft-land and the passengers learnt about the accident only from the news.
It still remains rather unclear why the warning light went off. A special commission is expected to arrive to the airport for examining the aircraft and test the engine oil. The company-owner of the plane says a day prior to the flight the plane was in a normal condition and did not need a repair.
