The Russian air company Transaero has expressed its readiness to carry out one daily flight to Tel-Aviv from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow in case if Russia and Israel seal a planned agreement on increasing of the number of flights between the countries.
This may mean that Transaero would not want any competitors to appear on the flights direction Russia-Israel. However, the planned agreement implies increasing of not only the number of flights but also gives each country a permission to appoint two air carriers for flights Moscow-Tel-Aviv instead on the current one.
Russia’s largest air company Aeroflot is most likely to become the main candidate for becoming the second airline carrying out regular flights to Israel. It could appear a serious competitor for Transaero due to having a better developed network of domestic routes which lets the company offer beneficial flights to Tel-Aviv from other Russian cities through its hub in Moscow.
Transaero has been the only appointed Russian air carrier on this route since 1991. It is one of the historical routes of the company which at the moment fully uses the current norm of 14 weekly flights by carrying out 2 flights daily.
