APEC Summit 2012 to be Economic Cure for Vladivostok

Russia has offered to hold the APEC summit 2012 in Vladivostok. It is to push economic development in Vladivostok and Primorsky territory.

At present, Vladivostok is not prepared to host such a summit, but this factor is only to boost its development. This summit is expected to attract Russian and foreign investments into the territory.

Sergey Darkin, the Primorye governor, has promised to turn Primorye into a large-scale energy complex and to make its harbor a free trade zone.

Energy complex is to export energy into China and North Korea. It will consist of a refinery (with 20 million tons a year capacity), a gas pipe line from Sakhalin, two new power stations, and a nuclear power station.

To host the APEC summit Vladivostok is to construct a building for summit conferences, a large international press-center, two bridges, a new theatre, a new opera theatre and a ballet, a modern medical canter and some hotels.
