Art of the Russian church

The State Historic Museum invites you to visit an exhibition entitled The Art of the Russian Church.
       Icon has always been the central symbol in the Christian church. Icon painting remained a prevailing art in Russia till the mid-17th century. The exhibition presents icons from the altar screens of the 15th 17th centuries, including most worshipped icons in precious settings and the icons by Simon Ushakov, the most outstanding representative of the icon-painting style of the tsars isographs school.
