Germans to Develop St. Petersburg Brand

In half a year in European cities it may become possible to see billboards calling tourists to visit St. Petersburg. Russian-German branding agency Damm und Lindlar starts developing a new brand for the northern capital of Russia. The billboards will supposedly be done in silver colours and will depict St. Petersburg citizens on the background of the drawbridges.
According to the marketing specialists, St. Petersburg is not highly popular with tourists due to not only its generally underdeveloped tourist industry but also due to travellers simply lack any knowledge about the city.
The German brand specialists deem that brand creation can be based mainly on feelings and associations but not history, architecture and biography of some famous figures. Several focus-groups organized by the agency have made a research on what associations the city brings to minds of St. Petersburg citizens in these or those conditions. They have revealed several most common images of the city based on seasons, time of the day and some other factors. The final aim of the marketing specialists is to convey the idea of what St. Petersburg citizens feel about the city to minds of European tourists.
