Moscow prefers to enjoy its veto right without Group of Four

Moscow doesnt hasten to support Sarkozys plan to help Germany, India, Japan and a major African country join the UN Security Council as permanent members.

Yesterday French President Nicolas Sarkozy pledged to help the so-called Group of Four-- Brazil, Germany, India, Japan and a major African country join the UN Security Council as permanent members.

Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the State Dame Committee on the International affairs, has admitted that the UN Security Council needs reforming. But he underlines that the decision to introduce new permanent members should be taken by all the present permanent members and the majority of UN members.

Russia is not against Sarkozys plan until it limits the veto right for the countries which have it now. With five counties joining the Security Council, the balance of political forces may change, as France is to get new allies.

Currently there are five permanent members of the Security Council which have veto right, they are Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States. The Security Council consists of 10 more non-permanent members.
