The Peoples Artist of Russia, actor Igor Dmitriyev has died, aged 81, in Saint Petersburg.
Igor Dmitriyev was born on May 29, 1927 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). He made his film debut as far back as 1939 in Vladimir Feinbergs feature Golos Tarasa (The Voice of Taras). His first remarkable film role was that of Yevgeni Listnitsky in the well-known drama Tikhiy Don (And Quiet Flows the Don) (1957) directed by Sergei Gerasimov. Altogether Dmitriyev played in more than 120 films. In 1988 he was honoured with the title of the Peoples Artist of Russia.
Dmitriyev is also the author of the cycle of 30 TV programmes At Igor D… telecast on Petersburg TV. In addition to that, for over 40 years he hosted radio broadcasts.
Igor Dmitriyev will be laid to rest tomorrow at Serafimovskoe Cemetery.
