Moscow backs Belgrades appeal to UN

Russia has supported Serbias appeal for calling an emergency UN Security Council meeting, says the Russian ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin.
Belgrade insists that the meeting should be called in view of the threatening situation thats taking shape in the provinces of Kosovo and Metohia where final preparations are being made for illegal proclamation of independence. Russia consider that such a proclamation may violate 1244 resolution of the UN Security Council and put world peace and security at risk. Russia as a UN Security Council member is strongly opposed to Pristinas unilateral proclamation of sovereignty and presses for a solution within the international law framework. Russias Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that Kosovos independence could trigger a chain reaction in many world nations with absolutely unpredictable consequences.
The Serbias appeal may be considered at UN Security Council on Wednesday.
