“Aeroflot Open 2008” Chess Tournament Starts in Moscow

On 13-23 February 2008 the Russian air carrier Aeroflot, association of chess federations and the Russian chess federation, supported by the Committee of Tourism of the Government of Moscow are holding the 7th international chess tournament “Aeroflot Open 2008” in the Russian capital. Supporting the chess tournament as a national kind of sport, Aeroflot provides funds for the prize and operates as the general air carrier of the participants.
      
      This year around 400 chess players of various categories from 50 countries will take part in the tournament. The participants of the tournament are provided with the largest in history of this tournament prize – US$200.000.
      
      As before, the tournament will consist of four stages (A1, A2, B and C), formed in accordance with the rating of the participants and held in conformity with the Swiss system within nine rounds.
