US Media Accuse RSA of Women Discrimination
Yuri Malenchenko, Peggy Wilson and Yi So-yeon

NBC News and Associated Press accused head of Russian Space Agency (RSA) Anatoly Perminov of discrimination against women after he had explained the recent ballistic landing of Soyuz-TMA 11 spacecraft with presence of two women aboard. When saying that Mr. Perminov jokingly referred to the popular Russian superstition stating that presence of women aboard brings bad luck.

On April 19, 2008, Soyuz-TMA 11 spacecraft carried out ballistic landing with 3 cosmonauts aboard: Yuri Malenchenko, American Peggy Wilson and the first Korean female cosmonaut Yi So-yeon. During the descending the spacecraft changed from controlled to ballistic mode and landed 2 minutes later than the scheduled time and 420 kilometres away from the planned landing site.
