Mass media may face shut down for libel
The State Duma Façade

Last Friday the Russian State Duma passed an anti-libel bill, which permits to close down mass media for libel in a judicial proceeding.
The officials claim the responsibility taken by mass media when publishing libel materials has nothing to do with disastrous consequences the affected person has to face. Thus, in case of repeated publication of misleading information, including dissemination of extremist materials, a newspaper, a magazine or another mass media resource may be shut down.
